Description
The Sony PXW-FS7 Mark II is a flexible 4K Super 35 camera system that builds on the original FS7 with an electronic variable ND filter and a stronger locking E-mount.
Mount and Lens Support
The reinforced E-mount reduces lens play and includes a safety interlock against accidental disengagement. It supports most 35mm lenses — PL, EF, Leica and Nikon — via optional adapters, and handles heavier long cine zooms without needing extra lens support.
Recording
The camera records DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) or UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) up to 59.94fps, or HD up to 180fps, in XAVC-I, XAVC-L or MPEG-2. The Super 35 XAVC sensor delivers 14 stops of dynamic range with a wide colour gamut, and offers 10-bit 4:2:2 for HD or a choice of 10-bit 4:2:2/8-bit 4:2:0 for UHD. Dual XQD slots support simultaneous or relay recording.
Exposure and Handling
A stepless electronic ND filter adjusts from 2 to 7 stops without introducing colour shift, so the lens iris can be set for depth of field and exposure fine-tuned separately with the ND. At under 4 pounds, the body is lighter than an aluminium build, with a shoulder pad and SmartGrip handgrip for handheld operation.
