Description
The Zoom F8 is a multi-track field recorder built for filmmakers and sound designers, with 8-input/10-track recording and eight super-low-noise preamps supporting 24-bit/192kHz audio.
Inputs and Recording
Eight lockable XLR/TRS combo inputs give up to 75dB of gain with an EIN of -127dBu or better. The unit records up to 10 tracks simultaneously (8 channels plus a stereo mix), or 8 channels at the full 192kHz resolution. Dual-channel recording captures a quieter backup take alongside the primary signal, protected further by a 10dB-headroom limiter.
Sync and I/O
SMPTE timecode input/output syncs with camera and other recorders, accurate to under 0.2 frames per 24 hours. Dual 100mW headphone outputs plus MAIN OUT and SUB OUT jacks cover monitoring and camera feed simultaneously, and +24V/+48V phantom power runs condenser mics on any input. Internal mixing allows flexible channel-to-output routing.
Storage and Power
Two SDXC card slots record simultaneously for longer sessions, or double as a USB card reader. Power comes from AA batteries, an AC adapter, or 9-16V external DC, with automatic switching between sources. The F8 also works as a USB audio interface (2-in/2-out or 8-in/4-out) and supports Zoom’s interchangeable mic capsules on inputs 1/2.
