The Sony FE 28-70mm f/2 GM Lens is a standard zoom with a constant f/2 aperture, built to replace multiple primes for photographers and filmmakers who need speed and flexibility.
Optics
As Sony’s first G Master zoom with a constant f/2 aperture, it gives a full stop of extra light over typical f/2.8 standard zooms, improving subject separation and low-light performance. XA, Super ED, ED and aspherical elements deliver edge-to-edge sharpness, and Nano AR Coating II controls flare and ghosting. A floating focus system holds sharpness from infinity to a 1.2ft minimum focus distance, with an 11-blade aperture for smooth bokeh.
Autofocus and Handling
Four XD linear motors give fast, precise, near-silent autofocus, supporting continuous shooting to 120fps and video to 240fps. The short-throw zoom design extends just 0.7″ from 28mm to 70mm, keeping gimbal balance steady through the zoom range. Focus breathing is optically minimised and compatible with Sony’s Breathing Compensation on supported bodies; the aperture ring can be de-clicked for silent iris pulls.
Build
Weighs approximately 2lb (5.5″ length) with weight biased toward the rear for balanced handheld use. Dust- and moisture-resistant construction, a fluorine-coated front element, two customisable focus hold buttons and a locking aperture ring round out a rugged, field-ready build.
