Description
The Sony AXS-R7 is a portable memory recorder that bolts onto Sony VENICE and PMW-F5/F55 cameras. It adds 16-bit linear RAW and X-OCN recording, so productions can capture high-end files for grading. In addition, X-OCN LT reduces file sizes to about 40% of F55 RAW, which helps on data-heavy shoots.
High frame rates
On a VENICE, the recorder supports 4K at up to 120 fps and 6K at up to 90 fps. That 6K mode requires a High Frame Rate licence on the camera. The F55 reaches 4K at 120 fps, while the F5 reaches 4K at 60 fps. Both cameras can also shoot 2K at up to 240 fps.
Cards and cache recording
Two side-loading slots take AXS A-series cards. The fastest modes need AXS-A512S48 or AXS-A1TS48 cards, so check your data plan before the shoot. Cache recording also holds about 30 seconds of 23.98p footage in standby, which helps with unpredictable action.
Built for location work
The metal body resists dust and splashes, so it copes with demanding locations. It takes 11 to 17V DC through its XLR inputs. However, the older AXS-512S24 card won’t work in this recorder.
