Description
The SKAARHOJ Tally Box with 4 Tally Lights is a networked tally system for multi-camera live production. It shows presenters and camera operators which camera is live. The Tally Box joins your production network, so it reads tally data straight from the switcher. Four bright camera-top lamps then display program and preview status.
Why Hire an External Tally System
Built-in camera tally lights are often small, dim or hidden behind a teleprompter hood. As a result, talent can lose track of which lens to address. These lamps put a large red light facing the presenter, so the live camera is obvious from across the studio. In addition, a smaller red and green light faces the operator for program and preview cues.
How the System Connects
The Tally Box has eight RJ45 outputs, one for each camera position. Each lamp runs on a single Cat cable that carries both signal and power. Consequently, you don’t need batteries or separate power supplies at the camera end. You can also daisy chain up to three lamps on one output.
Setup is simple. Connect the box to the same network as your switcher, then enter the switcher’s IP address. The box supports Blackmagic ATEM, Sony and TSL tally protocols, among others. For example, you can follow an ATEM’s program and preview buses with no extra hardware.
Ideal Shoots for This Kit
This four-lamp bundle suits podcasts, panel discussions, webinars and live-streamed events. It also works well for corporate presentations and small studio broadcasts. Each lamp mounts on a cold shoe or a 1/4″ screw, so it fits most cameras and rigs. Meanwhile, the Tally Box takes PoE or the supplied 12V adapter, which keeps power options flexible on location.
