Description
The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM is the long-awaited update to Canon’s well-regarded telephoto zoom, covering full-frame EOS bodies and a 160-640mm equivalent range on APS-C sensors.
Optics
A fluorite element and a Super UD element correct chromatic aberration for sharp, colour-accurate images, and Air Sphere Coating reduces backlit flare and ghosting. Optical Image Stabiliser gives up to 4 stops of correction, with Standard, Panning and During-Exposure-Only modes for different shooting styles. Nine rounded diaphragm blades give pleasing bokeh for selective focus work.
Handling
An Ultrasonic Motor with internal focusing and a high-speed CPU gives fast, near-silent autofocus. A rotation-type zoom ring with adjustable torque suits handheld shooting, and a detachable tripod collar can be removed without taking the lens off the camera. Weather sealing and fluorine coatings on the front and rear elements round out the build, with an ET-83D hood featuring a side window for adjusting rotating filters.
