Description
The Neumann U87 Ai kit includes the U 87 Ai large-diaphragm condenser microphone and EA87 elastic shock mount, a studio and broadcast standard for instrument and vocal recording.
Design
The original capsule design carries a shock-mounted dual diaphragm with three switchable polar patterns — omnidirectional, cardioid and figure-eight — selected below the head grille. A 10dB pad lets the mic handle sound pressure up to 127dB, suiting close-miked percussion, drums and brass, and a low-cut roll-off switch removes hum and rumble.
Electronics
Updated output electronics over the original capsule design give 10dB higher sensitivity and a 3dB improvement in signal-to-noise ratio, while keeping the classic U87 sound.
