The Cooke S4 primes are renowned throughout the industry for optical and mechanical performance, with strong control of flare, distortion and spherical aberrations, and Cooke’s signature warmth and gentle focus fall-off.
Optics
A true T2.0 aperture runs across the set, covering the Super 35 format with maximum performance wide open. The standard kit includes 18, 25, 32, 50, 75 and 100mm, with additional focal lengths available on request. All S4 primes are colour-matched for compatibility across the full Cooke range.
Build
A hardened PL mount and cam-style focus mechanism — paired with a large lens barrel — helped the S4 line win an Academy Award. Four-point contact bearings give smooth, backlash-free movement, and large, clear focus numbers on both sides of the barrel help focus pullers in difficult lighting. Most S4 primes share a 110mm front diameter (exceptions: 12mm, 150mm, 180mm, 300mm), with an eight-leaf iris suited to handheld and Steadicam use.
