The Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM updates the classic Canon 35mm f/1.4L with Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics for sharper, cleaner results at a fast f/1.4 aperture.
Optics
The BR element refracts blue light specifically to cut chromatic aberration and colour fringing, working alongside two aspherical and one UD element for clarity and sharpness. Sub-wavelength coating reduces ghosting and flare, and fluorine coatings on the front and rear elements resist fingerprints and smudging.
Handling
An Ultrasonic Motor gives fast, near-silent autofocus with full-time manual override. Minimum focus reaches 11″ for a 0.21x maximum magnification, and a 9-blade aperture gives smooth, pleasing bokeh. Weather sealing suits demanding shoots — on APS-C bodies the lens gives a 56mm equivalent field of view.
