Description
The Revar Cine Rota Pola is a geared 4×5.65″ filter tray with a 138mm circular polarizer already mounted. It drops straight into a standard matte box. Instead of hand-turning a ring mid-take, the AC rotates it through 0.8 mod gears from either side. So the polarizing angle adjusts cleanly without disturbing the rig.
Built for geared, repeatable control
Gears run along both the operator and dumb side of the tray. Consequently, the AC can adjust the polarizer from whichever side is accessible on set.
A threaded 1/4-20 mounting point also accepts a wireless follow-focus motor. As a result, a focus puller can pull the angle remotely. This works even from a jib, crane, or any spot the AC can’t reach by hand.
Revar machines the tray itself from aircraft-grade aluminum and poly components, matched to the tolerances of current 4×5.65″ matte boxes. The tray handles constant swapping between setups all day rather than just sitting in a rental case.
A polarizer that holds up under scrutiny
The mounted filter is a mid-efficiency circular polarizer ground from Schott B270 glass with a broadband anti-reflective coating. It gives roughly 38% transmission, about 1.5 stops of light loss. That’s enough polarizing strength to cut reflections off water, glass, and car paint, or to deepen a sky. As a result, it does this without the heavier light penalty of a stronger polarizer.
Where it fits on a shoot
This is the tray to reach for whenever a scene has reflective surfaces in frame. Think shop windows, car exteriors, water, or glossy interiors. Without it, an unpolarized image reads too hot or too busy.
Because rotation is geared rather than hand-turned, the AC can fine-tune the effect shot-to-shot without breaking the rig down. So, this matters most on setups where the matte box stays locked off between takes.
