Description
The Profoto A1 AirTTL (Canon) is a portable flash for on- or off-camera use, built around a 2.75″ round, tilting, rotating head that gives a natural, gradual light fall-off. Fresh 4-packs of AA batteries can be added to the hire.
Performance
Auto-zoom covers 32-105mm, extending to 14-24mm with the included Wide Lens, with manual override available anytime. Recycle time runs 0.05-1.2 seconds, with flash durations from 1/800 to 1/20,000 sec and HSS support for shutter speeds up to 1/8000 sec. An LED modelling light previews the fall-off before firing, shown alongside all settings on a readable white-on-black LCD.
Power and Wireless
The rechargeable Li-Ion battery gives 350 full-power flashes (thousands at partial power), recharging in around 80 minutes, with no fade in performance as it depletes — a second battery is worth carrying. A built-in transceiver pairs the A1 with other A1s, B2, D2, B1 and B1X units, controllable via any Air Remote at up to 1,000ft. The Air Remote TTL adds full wireless channel/group assignment, TTL/manual switching per group, and ±3 stops of remote exposure compensation.
