Description
The NiSi 4×5.65″ Blue-Streak Filter 2mm adds a bold, elongated blue flare to spherical lenses. It reproduces the streak look that anamorphic glass creates naturally. The filter drops straight into a standard 4×5.65″ matte box tray. As a result, a production can get that signature streak look without swapping out an entire lens set.
How the streak effect is created
NiSi builds the filter from clear, optical-grade H-K9L glass. A single series of fine lines runs 2mm apart across its surface. These lines catch point light sources, strong highlights, and reflective or metallic surfaces. They then stretch that light into a horizontal blue streak. Because the spacing is wider than the 1mm version, the streak reads bolder and more pronounced on screen. The rest of the frame still stays clean and sharp.
Getting a straight, anamorphic-style flare
NiSi recommends focal lengths of 35mm and longer for this filter. Shorter, wider lenses can introduce distortion. That distortion bends the streak instead of keeping it straight. So, a crew chasing a clean anamorphic look should stick to the longer end of their set. The filter also rotates freely in the tray. As a result, its orientation can be dialed in to match a shot — horizontal, vertical, or angled.
On-set use
This filter works on ordinary spherical lenses. So it is a fast way to add a stylised flare during a shoot day. There is no need for the cost or weight of full anamorphic glass. The effect suits several production types:

- Commercials
- Narrative scenes built around practical lights, neon signage, or car headlights
In each case, a bolder, more visible streak adds production value in-camera rather than in the grade.
