Angenieux EZ-3 Super-35 cinema zoom — 45-165mm T2.3, PL mount, 3.7x tele reach with swappable Full-Frame rear optic.

Description

The Angenieux EZ-3 Cinema Zoom Lens is a compact tele zoom built around a Super-35 / Full-Frame switchable rear lens-group system — this listing covers the Super-35 configuration (45-165mm, T2.3), fitted with PL mount.

This PL-mount configuration pairs natively with PL cinema camera bodies — ARRI Alexa, RED, Sony Venice and Blackmagic URSA — with no adapter required. EF, RF and E mount options are also available separately.

Optical Performance

A constant T2.3 aperture holds steady from 45mm through to 135mm, easing only slightly to T3 at the long end (165mm) — among the fastest apertures available in a Super-35 tele zoom. The 3.7x zoom ratio covers a useful telephoto range without a lens change.

Format Swap and Handling

Angenieux’s IRO (Interchangeable Rear Optics) system swaps between Super-35 and Full-Frame rear groups in around five minutes, so the same front barrel covers both sensor formats. Three control rings — focus, iris and zoom — use 0.8 MOD cine-pitch gear teeth for compatibility with follow focus units and lens control motors. A dual feet-meter focus scale converts without a collimator.

Build

The lens weighs 2.6kg (5.7lb) and measures 265mm (10.4″) long, with a 114mm front diameter shared with the Angenieux OPTIMO and EZ-1/EZ-2 lenses — matte boxes and accessories carry across the range. Minimum focus distance is 1.2m (4ft).
