Description
The Sony PMW-F5 CineAlta is a Super 35 digital cinema camera in a rigid alloy body, built for productions that need uncompromising image quality alongside a professional on-set workflow.
Kit and Sensor
The rental kit includes a Sony DVF-EL100 viewfinder, Vocas baseplate, Tilta top plate and top handle, two 64GB SxS Pro cards, a card reader, and V-Lock batteries with charger. The 8.9MP Super 35 sensor delivers 14 stops of dynamic range, recording to XAVC, SR codec and raw formats on SxS PRO+ media, with provision for external raw capture.
Recording
Out of the box, the F5 records 2K and HD up to 59.94p in XAVC. With firmware updates installed, it captures 4K raw up to 60p and 2K raw up to 240p externally via an AXS-R5 recorder, plus internal 1080p 4:2:2 up to 180fps in XAVC. All raw recording is 16-bit.
Modular Design and Mount
A native FZ-mount ships with a PL-mount adapter, covering cine glass from Angénieux, Canon, Zeiss, Cooke, Fujifilm, Leica and others. Removing the PL adapter reveals the FZ-mount, compatible with Sony’s native FZ zoom or third-party still-lens adapters. Optional viewfinders range from the compact 0.7″ DVF-EL100 OLED to the 7″ DVF-L700 for full HD monitoring, and a shoulder rig with industry-standard rosettes accepts third-party grips and accessories.
Controls and Connections
One-touch access covers frame rate, shutter speed, colour temperature, ISO and gamma, with assignable buttons for frequently used adjustments. Connections include four HD-SDI outputs, HDMI, USB, a removable XLR audio module with 48V phantom power, and a removable timecode/genlock module.
