Description
The LA Rag House 8×8′ Magic Cloth is a white diffusion textile for overhead frames and butterflies. It spreads light very softly and evenly, so it suits close-ups, beauty work and interviews. In addition, it blends multi-diode LED panels into one clean source.
How Magic Cloth Shapes Light
Magic Cloth is one of the softest diffusions in the overhead range. It cuts about 2.5 stops, so plan on a stronger fixture than you would use behind grid cloth. In return, the falloff from highlight to shadow is smooth and gradual.
The wrap is also wide, with a 1 stop drop at 9° and a 2 stop drop at 17°. Colour temperature drops by only about 90 K. As a result, you can usually balance it in camera without extra gel.
Size and Rigging
At 8 x 8 feet (about 2.4 x 2.4 m), the cloth fits a standard 8×8′ overhead or butterfly frame. That size covers a seated interview or a two-shot from a single setup. Because it is mid-sized, two combo stands can usually hold it on a calm day.
The hire covers the textile only. If you need a frame, pair it with the Avenger 8×8′ overhead frame.
When to Choose Magic Cloth
Choose Magic Cloth when you want the softest result and have output to spare. For less light loss, the half grid or China silk keeps more punch. Meanwhile, Magic Cloth suits large LED panels, where it hides diode patterns. For example, crews often use it on commercials, portraits and dialogue scenes.
