The DJI Ronin 4D Flex Extension Unit makes filmmaking easier, lighter, and more flexible. It’s ideal for solo operators or shooting in tight spaces, as it allows you to detach the Zenmuse X9 gimbal camera from the main Ronin 4D body. As a result, you can reduce handheld weight and enjoy a more agile shooting setup. With the Flex Unit, your handheld setup weighs only 1.8 kg (4 lb).
A 2 m (6.6 ft) cable connects the camera and body, which ensures reliable communication for remote head setups and up to 8K video transmission.
In addition, you can easily attach the Ronin 4D handgrips using the included adapters, while the cold shoe mount lets you secure the main monitor for better framing.
Switching between the integrated and Flex setup is fast and tool-free. The included handgrip mount adapters and USB-C cables allow native control through the Ronin 4D system.
Moreover, the slim and flexible cable ensures smooth data transfer without getting in your way. You can use the ¼”-20 and ⅜”-16 threads to mount the X9 camera onto a jib arm or extension pole. This lets you move easily from low to high angles in a single, fluid shot.
Remote Head Operation
Thanks to its integrated communication cable, the X9 can act as a cinema-grade remote head. This setup allows you to perform dynamic pan, tilt, and tracking shots, even in areas with limited space.
Once the X9 is attached to the Flex unit, you can redistribute weight across your shoulders or waist.
This design allows for longer handheld sessions with less fatigue. Additionally, pairing it with a mounting vest or backpack can make shooting even more comfortable.
You can also expand lens options for telephoto, zoom, or anamorphic lenses using the included pan-axis quick lock.
When mounted on a tripod, the Flex Unit supports third-party accessories such as follow focus motors, which further enhance your creative control.
