Description

The Sony VENICE CineAlta Full Frame 6K features a 36mm x 24mm full-frame 6K CMOS sensor. This capture images up to a maximum resolution of 6048 x 4032. By switching imager modes, the VENICE can natively capture in almost any format. These include: Super-35 24.9×18.7mm, 4096 x 3024 resolution (equivalent to 4-perforation motion picture film). Super 35 24.9×14.0mm 4096 x 2160 resolution (equivalent to 3-perforation motion picture film). Full 18mm-height Super-35 Anamorphic and spherical. And finally, full-frame 24mm-height Anamorphic and spherical. Shoot multiple aspect ratios in both full-frame or Super35 modes. The higher speed sensor readout also reduces the rolling shutter jello effect found in many other CMOS sensors.

With the Sony VENICE has basically the same feature set as the Venice 2. Including the same 6K sensor.

Exposure latitude

The VENICE has 15+ stops of latitude. With low noise for greater performance in delivering high quality images in varying lighting conditions. As well as excelling at High Dynamic Range imaging.

Dual Base ISO

A base ISO of 500 provides the optimal dynamic range for typical cinematography applications with on-set lighting. A secondary High Base ISO of 2500 excels in low-light High Dynamic Range capture. With an exposure latitude from 6 stops over to 9 stops under 18% Middle Gray. Thus, a total of 15 stops. The VENICE’s High Base ISO 2500 is ideal when using slow lenses. Or shooting in low-light environments. Combining ISO 2500 with VENICE’s internal eight-step Optical ND filter system offers the ability to emulate different ISO’s. While maintaining maximum latitude of +6 and -9 stops. The result is the VENICE as a native ISO 1250 camera.

Colour Space

VENICE can exceed Rec. 2020 colour space. This means the colour range is wider than DCI-P3. The result is beautiful reproduction of the true colour of the scene. This also provides a broad palette in the grading suite. Using the established workflow of Sony’s third generation LOG gamma encoding (S-Log3). In addition, the Ultra-wide colour space.

Engineered to Survive

VENICE’s chassis is amazingly robust and tested in the harshest conditions. Its ventilation system is completely isolated from all electronic components. For example, preventing ingress of dust, sand and splash.

Depth of Field

As the sensor size gets larger, depth of field becomes shallower. VENICE’s wide 36 mm full-frame sensor can shallow DOF images. For example images have the equivalent of 1-2 stops shallower depth of field compared to Super 35.

6K High Resolution

Record the stunning full 6K resolution of the camera directly in X-OCN file format. Or 16 bit Extended tonal range Original Camera Negative. Also, capture XAVC 4K onto SxS cards. This, while still sampling from the full 6K resolution of the sensor.

World’s first 8-step Mechanical ND Filter

VENICE is the world’s first camera of its class with a servo-controlled 8-step Mechanical ND filter. It offers a massive ND of 0.3 (1/2 = 1 stop) to ND2.4 (1/256 = 8 stops) range. Thus  reducing time lost on set changing external filters. Finally, the ND filters also greatly increase VENICE’s flexibility. For example, when controlled remotely on drones and cranes, or in an underwater housing.
