Description

The Canon 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 CINE-SERVO combines the functionality of an ENG-style-servo zoom lens with the optical precision of a cinema zoom. The lens is compatible with Super 35 sensors. It is suitable for 4K plus acquisition. A detachable drive mechanism and support for rod attachment suit both the solo camera operator or a full production team. The lens features a 20x optical zoom and a focal length range of 50 to 1000mm. The maximum T stop is 5.0 at the wide end. Finally, a built-in 1.5x extender provides a 75 to 1500mm zoom range, capable of supporting 4K resolution.

180° of focus rotation for precise focus pulls, with markers in both feet and meters. The detachable drive unit requires no re-calibration. In addition, it supports motorised zoom speeds ranging from 1.5 seconds to 180 seconds to zoom throughout the entire range. The zoom control includes a mini-LCD that displays zoom, focus, and iris setting. The lens mount supports electronic signal pass through, supporting EOS lens data management functions. The built-in, 12-pin connector allows you to interface this lens with standard broadcast connectors. The 11-blade iris creates circular out of focus highlights and a natural looking Bokeh.

20x Zoom Range

The lens features a 20x zoom range of 50 to 1000mm. This is very long for a Super 35 format lens. A built-in 1.5x extender allows you to increase the zoom range to 75 to 1500mm.

Suitable for Shoulder Mounted Camera Operation

The lens features the form factor and control layout of a typical ENG lens. Friendly for a single camera operator to control while using the camera shoulder mounted. The right hand controls the zoom servo rocker, while the left hand focus and iris.

Variable Speed Servo

High speed servo-driven zoom and iris is available for critical situations such as while filming sports or fast action. Meanwhile, slower speed settings are available for more expressive work. With this variability, the zoom duration is set anywhere from 1.5 to 180 seconds

Immediate System Startup

The drive unit features a high-performance encoder so that the lens requires no initialisation.

Supports Virtual Image Data Output

  • Three 20-pin connectors make it is possible to connect an external system to collect 16-bit virtual image data.
  • Standard Broadcast 12-Pin Camera Interface Cable
  • Finally, the lens features the same 12-pin camera interface for power and serial data as found on regular Canon broadcast lenses

Broadcast Lens-Style Focus Ring

In addition to servo zoom, focus, and iris, the knurled focus ring is another ENG-derived feature . This is limited to a 180° rotation

Flange-Back Adjustment

Adjust the flange depth in the same manner as on broadcast lenses. This simplifies the transition between different camera systems with different flange focal distances

Fully Closing Iris

Closed the iris fully to set camera black balance or other calibration procedures

Detachable Drive Unit

The motor unit housing the servo motors and zoom rocker may be removed. This enables cinema style shooting where full manual control is preferred.

Supports Super 35mm Image Sensors

The lens provides a sufficiently large image circle to cover a Super 35mm sensor

Support for Cinema Lens Accessories

The lens is compatible with a wide array of accessories common in the cine industry. For example, matte boxes, follow focuses, and electronic and wireless controllers. The focus ring features both a 0.8mm MOD cine standard gear ring as well as a 0.5 Canon MOD ring. In addition, the zoom features a 0.5 Canon MOD, and there is also a 0.5 MOD iris gear.

Compatible with Lens Support

Use a 19mm rod system to support the lens. This lens makes that possible by allowing you to attach a lens support

Lens-to-Camera Metadata Transmission

The lens supports the Cooke/i Lens Camera Data protocols through contacts built into the PL-mount. This allows lens metadata such as zoom setting and iris to be recorded in the camera. A firmware update may be required.

Serviceable Lens Mounts

An authorised Canon service Facility can swap the lens mount between PL and Canon EF mount .

11-Blade Aperture Design

The lens features 11 aperture blades. This results in flares and orbs caused by the bokeh effect as close to round as possible. With fewer blades, it is often possible to see the geometric shape of the aperture. Additionally, using an odd number of blades helps prevent diffraction effects, such as an unwanted “staring” effect.
